I was honored to have poems included in Sol’s first year and am now pleased to be handed the duties of poetry editor by Bill Pearlman. Bill has done a great job in establishing a broad selection of poetry in Sol‘s pages and I am quite content to maintain that breadth of taste. I hope to add to that by drawing work from poets around the world, because I think an international presence is fitting given San Miguel’s cosmopolitan ambiance. Sol adds a needed literary element to San Miguel’s cultural scene – long rich in other arts such as music and painting – by providing a literary journal and showcase in addition to the workshops and readings that occur throughout the year. I hope that in the future we might also be able to include English translations of the excellent poetry in Spanish that surrounds us. As a newcomer to San Miguel seven years ago, and as a part-time resident for the last five years, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to contribute to San Miguel’s artistic tradition and thank Eva Hunter, Cazz Roberts, and Anne Nicolai for welcoming me to Sol‘s editorial board.
